On Monday night in my writing class with Laura Lentz and other brilliant writers, our topic was Sanctuary.
To me, that seems like a complicated topic these days, so for that class I recreated an old poem about a long ago encounter with a Dragon who is still, at times, a place of sanctuary for me.
And yet, complications or not, as I am sitting in the vegetable garden tonight I realized that this is becoming a new sanctuary space for me. I am focusing on creating and growing this space with mindful intention, and that work is creating and growing newness inside of me as well. A picture of part of today’s sanctuary is below.
Once this garden is set up I will be able to turn my attention to the flower and wild gardens again. Slow is steady and steady is fast:
The wild time has filled the mom roses out as well as up, creating an on the ground dining sanctuary for the sparrows. I can hear them scratching around and flying in and out. One of them frequently perches on the tall, dead stalk of a cosmos plant, from where he can see all the gardens as well as the street. He just saw a long-haired black cat strolling down the street and sounded an alarm every bird heard.
My heart is content with this day. It’s time for a warm shower and clean pajamas. Maybe a movie, maybe a book. Either way, I’ll be in the living room, cosy with Rhodes and the fur babies.
Good night, peeps. Sleep sweetly.

“Slow is steady and steady is fast“ love it!
