Full Moon of my heart
I am in a bit of an upside down world with my health stuff lately, but it is not THE Upside Down so all will be well. It’s just moving forward a little more slowly and a lot more sleepily, but I had good news last week and a revision of medication. Patience mode engaged.
Did I tell you I am back to part-time work at the Community Center? Have you ever known an employer that would give you an open-ended medical leave? Then welcome you back with joy and love into a modified position that accommodates your needs?
I believed I had a dream job once before I retired on disability. But this…this is a whole ‘nother world that adds to my thoughts and hopes about the world WE are bringing into being as the old towers crumble around us.
Why can’t we expect employers at all levels to treat employees with kindness and respect? There is room in our new system for trust and dignity if we demand it and build it in.
Medical leave that doesn’t mean loss of job or benefits. Compassionate leave that is the same. Who really believes 3 days off allows someone to grieve or even begin to manage end of life business?
Extended Parental leave and rights for all partners welcoming children into their family. Birth, adoption, family foster situations.
Extended End of Life leave for those caring for family or loved ones who are leaving this world behind.
Onsite or community established childcare, elder care, or other care facilities supported by community employers.
Don’t throw labels or excuses at me about why it can’t be done. Because it can if we shift our expectations. If we stop accepting the bullshit the establishment started feeding us as soon as we were born.
You just put these little seeds into your pocket, friends. Think about what it could mean in your life and your community.
Whew. I really just came here to share this image of a fritillary of sorts who visited when I was in the garden this morning.
Change can be a beautiful experience, even when it requires significant effort.
