Fireflies
Monday 1 June
Falling Full Moon
Today was a Jim Croce, Van Morrison, Alison Krauss, Kathy Mattea, Bread, Gregory Alan Isakov, U2, Mazzy Star, Gordon Lightfoot music kind of day. Smooth and soft, sliding toward summertime with my feet on the ground and head swimming in air.
I spent a few hours at the Center today, holding tight to all that it means to be back at work, even part-time. You can feel the power of that place as soon as you cross the threshold. For three hours I was immersed in the storytelling, listening, love, and compassion that are some of the keystones in the foundation of Swannanoa Communities Together.
I came home a bit early, tired in a floating kind of way. Snuggled in the big chair, first with Hank and then with Mojo. Hank and I had some watermelon for a snack. It’s one of his favorite treats, and as soon as he sees me take it out of the fridge he becomes my shadow.
I listened to more music, traveled in and out of sleep, and had some deep conversations with people I love.
Oh hey. Cannot forget Gary Allan and Life Ain’t Always Beautiful. That song has been catching me when I fall for years.
Rhodes had a hankering for Wendy’s food for dinner, so I went with him for the twilight drive. Man, what a beautiful night.
While I was waiting for him in the driveway I noticed that the mulberry tree at the top of the wild orchard has berries, ripe and ripening, snugged among its branches.
Near the Veterans’ Cemetery a little brown bat chased her dinner on an airstream at the edge of our headlights. She appeared as a dancing thread of darkness, swift and sure of her course, and disappeared into the darkness.
We also saw fireflies, my first of the season. I’m spinning a bit and cannot remember the location of the green wonderland that hides them in the daytime. But when we arrived home they were dancing in the orchard and across the gardens and little 6 year old me danced with them.
Ima dance myself to sleep with the fireflies tonight.
Good night, peeps. I hope your dreams are filled with peace and magic.
